No payment for discontinued internet for 15 days in a row: BTRC
If broadband internet service is off for 15 consecutive days, in place of three days, the customer will not have to pay the bill. The telecom regulator BTRC on Thursday (November 11) issued new directives amending the previous rules. Under the new rules, if a customer does not receive internet service for 15 consecutive days, the Internet Service Provider (ISP) will not be paid for that month.
The BTRC made the decision after the ISPAB filed an objection on three-day to the directive issued at the time of issuance of the service policy at the ISP, IIG and NTTN levels.
In the meantime, ISP service providers have reportedly received the directive.
Earlier, BTRC had said in a press release on October 5 that if one day continuous internet service is disconnected 50% of the total bill, two days continuous internet service disconnection 25% of the total bill and three consecutive days continuous internet service disconnected will cause cut of 100% monthly bill of any month.
However, the new guidelines have been amended to say that if the internet service is disconnected for five consecutive days, the service provider will be able to take 50% of the total bill. And if internet service is disconnected for 10 consecutive days, 25% of the total bill can be taken.
It can be noted that on July 6, the government announced 'One Country One Rate' for broadband internet services across the country.
